Research Before You Sign

Once you’ve signed a lease, you cannot cancel the lease if you are not satisfied with the unit. Ask the property manager to provide a tour of the unit before you sign. In many cases, you will tour only a model apartment or will not be assigned a specific apartment until after you’ve signed the lease. In those cases, you cannot cancel your lease if the assigned unit is different from the model unit. Generally, the only enforceable promises about the condition of the unit are the promises specifically made in the written lease.
