Module 1: Moving Off Campus

Moving off-campus is an exciting step in many Penn State students’ college experience. State College is home to hundreds of rental owners and managers who work hard to provide a student-friendly environment in a diverse and vibrant community.

While the freedom of living on your own is exciting and rewarding, the decision to move off-campus should not be taken lightly. Living off campus comes with the responsibility of maintaining a rental property and adhering to a signed lease. When you sign a lease, you are legally responsible for your promises.

While it may seem daunting, the choice doesn’t have to be rushed or uninformed. This module will explain many of the legal commitments you accept with a lease, help you to identify important factors to consider before signing, and provide resources to help you navigate this important life decision.
